Are web push notifications really free?
Yes, they are free until you reach a certain subscriber count. Until you reach that subscriber count you can send as many notifications as you want! We’re confident that once you start paying for an account, that means your traffic is getting bigger and your ROI on Subscribers should easily cover the monthly fees.
Do I need an Apple or Google Developer account to sign up?
Nope, we take care of all of that.
Will it work on HTTP and HTTPS sites?
Yes, it works on both and we will be adding in additional functionality to continue to give users of both types of sites the best experience possible.
Do my subscribers have to create an account with me or with Subscribers to get the push notifications?
No they don’t have to do either. It’s a simple one-click subscription service for them and they’re done. They can also unsubscribe any time they want through their browser.
I am unable to locate my Site ID on Subscribers.com, what should I do?
Your Site ID is displayed on the Install Code page. In the top menu of your dashboard look for the small icon next to the Send Notification button. This will take you to the Install Code page. From there, look for the WordPress option and click on it. You’ll then see your Site ID under this page and you can copy it straight from here.
Do I need to install it for all my websites separately?
Yes, the plugin needs to be installed separately on each of your websites. If you have more than one website you manage, you will want to Add a Site on your Subscribers account or sign up for a new account with a different username
Changelog
1.7.9
- Compatibility test with WordPress version 7.1, ready for WP 7.1
1.7.8
- Fixed service worker requests getting blocked (403) behind CloudFront WAF, which flags value-less query parameters like
?firebase-messaging-swas suspicious. The embed script now points at a clean path,/firebase-messaging-sw.js, which CloudFront does not block. The legacy/?firebase-messaging-swURL is still recognized and served, so browsers that already registered the old service worker URL keep working without re-registering.
1.7.7
- Fixed service worker CDN script failing to load (“https:///assets/subscribers-sw.js”, empty host) after the 1.7.6 fix restored the root-level service worker endpoint. Caused by config.php being require_once’d twice — once at plugin bootstrap (global scope) and once inside the service worker handler function (local scope) — so the second call was silently skipped and $subscribers_cdn_host was never set inside that function. Fixed by explicitly pulling in the global before including the service worker file.
1.7.6
- Fixed service worker registration failing (404) on sites with a renamed or non-default wp-content directory, PHP execution restrictions in the plugins folder, or aggressive page caching. The embed script’s service worker path was pointed at a direct plugin-folder file in 1.7.5; it now uses the hardened root-level endpoint (
/?firebase-messaging-sw) instead, which is unaffected by content-directory renaming and is not blocked by hosts/plugins that disallow direct PHP execution inside wp-content/plugins. No other 1.7.5 changes are affected.
1.7.5
- Fixed site language issue
1.7.4
- Fixed version to the service worker
