About Discount Master

From the official readme · v2.3.0

Description

Discount Master runs automatic, rule-based discounts and dynamic pricing, no coupon codes required.

Requires WooCommerce. This is an extension for WooCommerce, not a standalone plugin. WooCommerce 7.8 or newer must be installed and active. Tested up to WooCommerce 11.1.

  • No custom code: Bulk discounts, tiered pricing, BOGO deals, and role-based wholesale pricing, all from one rules engine.
  • Full control: Drag-and-drop rule priority with AND/OR conditions, so overlapping discounts behave exactly as you intend.
  • Matches your ads: Optionally push discounted prices to your Google, Facebook, Bing, Pinterest, and TikTok product feeds.

Features

  • Percentage Discounts: Offer store-wide percentage discounts or apply them to specific products or categories.
  • Bulk Discounts: Set up volume or quantity-based discounts to encourage larger purchases.
  • Cart-Based Discounts: Provide discounts based on cart total, item quantity, or specific products in the cart.
  • Product-Specific Discounts: Assign unique discounts to individual products or variations.
  • Fixed Price Lists: Set a product’s price to a flat amount rather than a discount off it, for member and wholesale pricing where the price is the same whatever the product normally costs.
  • Shipping Discounts: Give free shipping, or charge one flat rate instead of the calculated cost, on the methods you choose.
  • Discount Limits: Cap what any rule may take off, and set a floor under the price it may leave, so a generous rule cannot run away with your margin.
  • Category Discounts: Apply discounts to entire product categories to promote specific collections.
  • BOGO Deals: Create “Buy X, Get 1” offers with flexible quantity thresholds, not just strict one-for-one. Tiered BOGO deals, and deals that run across two different products such as “buy 2 shirts, get a pair of jeans at 10% off”, are available in Discount Master for WooCommerce Pro.
  • User Role-Based Discounts: Customize pricing for different user roles, such as wholesale customers or subscribers. Pro unlocks more targeting, including specific users, purchase history, and coupon usage.
  • Scheduled Discounts: Plan promotions in advance by setting start and end dates for discounts.
  • Exclusion Rules: Exclude specific products or categories from discount rules as needed.
  • Your Wording in the Cart: Decide what the discount line under a product says, rule by rule. Hide the “Discount” label or replace it with wording of your own, and take the text beside it from the discount, the rule’s title, its description, or anything you type.
  • Product Feed Integration: Optionally publish your discounted prices to your Google, Facebook, Bing, Pinterest, and TikTok product feeds, so the price in the ad matches the price on your site.

Highlighted Discount Types

  • Storewide Percentage Discount: Implement a universal discount across all products.
Example: A 10% discount on all items during a holiday sale.

  • Bulk Purchase Discount: Encourage larger orders by offering tiered discounts based on quantity.
    Example: Buy 3-5 items for a 5% discount; 6-10 items for a 10% discount.

  • Cart Total Discount: Reward customers who reach a certain cart value with a discount.
Example: Spend over $200 and receive a 15% discount.

  • Product-Specific Discount: Apply discounts to particular products to boost their sales.
Example: Get a 20% discount on Product X for a limited time.

  • Category Discount: Offer discounts on entire product categories.
Example: All items in the “Winter Collection” category are 25% off.

  • BOGO (Buy X, Get 1) Offers: Encourage larger purchases with flexible-quantity BOGO deals.
Example: Buy 3 T-shirts and get the 4th at 50% off.

  • User Role-Based Pricing: Provide special pricing for specific user groups.
Example: Wholesale customers receive a 30% discount on all products.

  • First Order Discount: Attract new customers by offering a discount on their first purchase.
Example: New users get a 10% discount on their first order.

Compatibility

Discount Master for WooCommerce integrates seamlessly with WooCommerce and is compatible with various themes and plugins, ensuring a smooth experience for both store administrators and customers.

  • High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS): Fully compatible, and declared as such to WooCommerce. All order data is read and written through the WooCommerce order API, so the plugin behaves identically whether your store keeps orders in the legacy post tables or in the high-performance order tables.
  • Cart & Checkout Blocks: Fully compatible, and declared as such to WooCommerce. Discounts apply, savings are recorded, and the “You saved” and before-discount price rows are shown on both the classic shortcode checkout and the newer block-based cart and checkout. The Mini Cart drawer shows the savings on its subtotal too.
  • Product Catalog Feed by PixelYourSite: Optional integration, off by default. Switch it on under Settings > Pricing and your discounted prices are written into every feed it generates, for every provider it supports, in both the free and Pro editions. You choose whether the discount goes into the sale price or the price.
  • Product Feed Manager for WooCommerce by RexTheme: Optional integration, off by default. Switch it on under Settings > Pricing and your discounted prices are written into the sale price and the current price of every feed it generates, for every merchant it supports, including Google Shopping, Facebook, Bing, and Pinterest.

Frequently asked questions

Can I set up multiple discount rules simultaneously?

Yes, Discount Master for WooCommerce allows you to create and manage multiple discount rules concurrently, each with its own set of conditions.

Does Discount Master for WooCommerce support discounts for specific user roles?

Absolutely. You can define discounts exclusive to certain user roles, such as wholesalers or premium members.

Is it possible to schedule discounts for future dates?

Yes, you can set start and end dates for each discount rule, enabling automated promotions during specific periods.

How does Discount Master for WooCommerce handle overlapping discount rules?

Rules are checked in the order they appear on the Discounts screen, top first. The Priority column shows that order, and you change it by dragging a rule up or down with its Move handle. By default every matching rule applies, one after the other. If you want a rule to be the last word, tick “Stop processing other rules after this one applies” on it: once it applies, the rules below it are skipped.

Can I exclude certain products from a discount rule?

Yes, Discount Master for WooCommerce provides options to exclude specific products or categories from selected discount rules.

Is Discount Master for WooCommerce compatible with High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS)?

Yes. The plugin declares HPOS compatibility to WooCommerce and handles all order data through the WooCommerce order API, so it works the same way whether your store uses the legacy post tables or the high-performance order tables. You can turn HPOS on under WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Features without deactivating the plugin, and no compatibility warning will be shown on that screen. If you switch an existing store over to HPOS, the savings totals recorded before the switch are moved across to the new order tables automatically, in the background, the next few times you load the…

Can my discounted prices appear in my Google or Facebook product feed?

Yes, if you generate your feeds with Product Catalog Feed by PixelYourSite or Product Feed Manager for WooCommerce by RexTheme. Both integrations are off by default. Switch the one you use on under Settings > Pricing, and your discounted prices are written into the feeds it builds, so the price in your listing matches the price on your site. Your feeds do not change until they are next generated. Only discounts that can be worked out from the product on its own are published: rules based on product, category, tag, or a start and end date. Rules that depend on the cart, the shopper, or the…

Does the plugin set any cookies?

One, and only for the “URL & traffic source” conditions. It is a first-party cookie named dmfwc_attribution, written by your own site in the visitor’s browser. Those conditions ask how the shopper reached your store, but a discount is worked out on the cart or checkout page – long after the visit that carried utm_source=facebook. The cookie is what carries that answer forward. It holds the page the visitor landed on, any campaign parameters in that link (utm_source, gclid, and similar), the site that referred them, and the pages they have visited on your store, each with a timestamp. It holds…

Does the plugin ask me to review it?

Once. After you have had it installed for two weeks, a notice appears on Discount Master’s own dashboard page asking for a WordPress.org review. You can snooze it for another two weeks or dismiss it permanently, and it never appears on any other admin screen.

Does it work with the Cart and Checkout blocks?

Yes. Discounts apply, savings are recorded, and the display rows are shown on both the classic shortcode checkout and the block-based cart and checkout. Compatibility with the Cart & Checkout Blocks is declared to WooCommerce. On the blocks, the “You saved” row appears in the order summary just above the total, the same place it sits on the classic checkout. The crossed-out total and crossed-out subtotal appear as their own rows, labelled “Total before discount” and “Subtotal before discount”, rather than being struck through on the total and subtotal lines themselves – the blocks do not…

Is there a Pro version?

Yes. Discount Master for WooCommerce Pro is an add-on that runs alongside the free plugin, using the same rules screen. It adds more discount actions and a much wider set of conditions to build rules from. Extra discount actions: product tiered pricing, tiered “Buy X get 1 at % off”, “Buy X get 1 free”, percentage, or fixed amount off the shipping cost, applying coupons automatically, and giving free gifts. Extra conditions: Product attributes Product taxonomy Product meta Specific users User roles User email User meta Total orders made Total spent First purchase Purchased products Reviewed…

Changelog

Managing discounts now needs the same permission as managing WooCommerce coupons. Authors and Contributors lose access to the discounts screen. If you had deliberately given someone access, give them the Shop Manager role to keep it. Rules using the Product categories or Product tags condition now cover variable products, which is what they always said they did, so look over any rule that excludes a category. Dragging a rule into a new position on page two or later used to renumber that page starting from 1, which silently changed which discount wins; check your rule order if you have ever reordered rules on a page other than the first. Using the Pro add-on? Update it to 2.3.0 at the same time, or rules using a Pro condition will ignore that condition.

2.3.0

  • Added: A tier in a “Buy X, get 1 at a discount” rule can now take a set amount off instead of a percentage, so you can offer “Buy 3, get 1 at 5.00 off” without working out what that is as a percentage and redoing it every time a price changes. Each tier carries its own choice, so one rule can mix the two. Rules you already have keep charging exactly what they charge now.
  • Added: Product actions now have a Target box, so an action can discount all products, the products you pick, whole product categories, or products carrying chosen tags. A category or tag target covers products you add later, so you no longer have to edit the rule every time your catalogue changes. Rules you already have keep discounting exactly the products they discount now.
  • Added: A “Test this rule” panel at the bottom of a discount’s Conditions tab. Pick any product and see, condition by condition, whether the rule picks it up, before you save. Conditions that depend on the cart, on the shopper, or on how they arrived are listed but left unanswered, because there is no real cart to read them against, and the panel tells you how many it left out.
  • Added: A Priority column in the discounts list, so you can read the running order off the screen instead of counting rows. When two discounts could both apply, the one higher up the list wins.
  • Added: A Match choice on the Select products, Product categories and Product tags conditions: any of the things you picked, or all of them. Picking three categories used to mean a product had to be filed under all three at once, which is almost never what anyone means. Rules you already have keep working exactly as they do today, and the field opens on the setting that matches their current behaviour, so nothing changes until you change it yourself.
  • Added: A line under any list that has greyed-out “(PRO)” entries in it, saying where those entries come from and linking to the Pro version. Before, a greyed-out entry could not be clicked and there was nothing to click instead.
  • Added: A “Set product price to a fixed amount” action. Type one price, pick your products, and they sell at that price whatever they normally cost, which is what a member or wholesale price list needs. Anything already cheaper than the price you typed is left alone, so it can never put a price up.
  • Added: A “Flat shipping rate” action. Charge one set amount for shipping instead of the calculated cost, for example 5.00 to anywhere. You can limit it to chosen shipping methods, and any rate that already costs less is left alone. If another rule gives free shipping on the same order, free still wins.
  • Added: Maximum discount and minimum price boxes at the top of the Actions tab, for putting a ceiling under a generous rule. Maximum discount is the most the rule may take off, per item for product actions and per cart for cart actions. Minimum price is the lowest it may sell an item for. Both are optional and both start empty, so nothing changes on the rules you already have. Note that leaving a box empty is not the same as typing 0 in it: empty means no limit, and 0 means the rule may take nothing off at all.
  • Fixed: Discounts could be created, edited, activated and deleted by anyone allowed to write a post on your site, which on a standard WordPress setup includes Authors and Contributors. Managing discounts now needs the same permission as managing WooCommerce coupons, so administrators and shop managers keep full access and nobody else has it. If you had deliberately given an author or an editor access to the discounts screen, give them the Shop Manager role to keep it.
  • Fixed: Picking a variable product in an action discounted nothing, because a cart line holds the size or colour the shopper chose rather than the product itself. Picking the product now covers every one of its variations. If you worked around this by listing the variations one by one, those rules still work as they did.
  • Fixed: The category and tag pickers could not show you everything you searched for. A search matching more than ten categories listed the first ten with no way to reach the rest, and on other stores it offered page numbers that came back empty. The page numbers now match what you searched for.
  • Fixed: Rules using the Product categories or Product tags condition ignored variable products. A rule limited to a category never fired on them, which is the half you would have noticed, and a rule written to keep a category out never held it back, which is the half that costs money. Both now read the product the shopper is looking at rather than the size or colour they picked. Worth checking any rule that excludes a category, because it will now start excluding variable products the way it always said it did.
  • Fixed: Product feed manager integration.
  • Fixed: Pagination on the shop, product categories, and other pages using WordPress’s page-number links could come out blank. This did not affect discounts, prices, or anything else the plugin controls.
  • Fixed: Dragging a rule into a new position while looking at any page other than the first scrambled your rule order. The rules on that page were renumbered starting from 1, colliding with the rules on page 1, which silently changed which discount wins on your products. The same happened while a search was active. Dragging now counts from the right place, and is switched off while you are searching, with a note saying to clear the search first. Worth looking over your rule order if you have ever reordered rules on page two or later.
  • Fixed: When a discount refused to save, the only clue was a message in the corner of the screen naming the problem but not where it was, and the save gave up at the first problem it found. Every field is now checked in one go, each problem is written next to the field it belongs to, and the editor takes you to the first one.
  • Fixed: A setting the plugin did not recognise was quietly thrown away, and the screen still said everything had been saved. It now tells you which setting was left alone and opens the panel it sits on.
  • Fixed: When one rule held two product actions, the cart could name the wrong one. A rule with both “50% off” and “1.00 off” charged the 1.00 off, correctly, but the line said “50% off”. Only one product action ever applies to a product, and the cart now names the one that did. Prices are unchanged, only the wording is. If you have a rule with two product actions in it and you meant them to add up, put them in two separate rules instead.
  • Tweak: The amount box on an action now says what that action actually wants. It used to say “Discount amount” whichever action you picked, so a percentage action asked for an amount, and “Set product price to a fixed amount” asked for a discount when what it takes is the selling price. It now reads “Discount percentage”, “New price” or “Shipping rate” as appropriate, with a line underneath explaining what to type.
  • Tweak: Every discount rule is now read by the same code that applies it, instead of by a separate copy that could fall out of step with it. Your existing rules are unchanged and nothing needs re-saving.
  • Updated: If you use the Pro add-on, update both plugins together. This version needs Discount Master for WooCommerce Pro 2.3.0 or newer, and if an older one is installed you get a notice on your dashboard saying so. Until you update Pro, rules that use a Pro condition ignore that condition, which can hand a discount to shoppers it was meant to exclude.

2.2.0

  • Added: You can now decide what the “Discount: 10% off” line under a product in the cart actually says, and each rule carries its own wording. On the rule’s Display tab you can switch the “Discount” label off and show only the text beside it, or keep the label and replace the word “Discount” with something of your own, such as “Offer” or “You save”. You can also choose where that text comes from: the discount itself as before, the rule’s title, its description, or any wording you type in. If the source you pick has been left empty, the discount is used instead, so the line is never blank. The same settings follow the line everywhere it already appears: the cart, the checkout, the order confirmation page, your order emails, and the customer’s account area. They also cover the discount line in the order totals, so a shopper looking at one email no longer sees two different wordings for the same promotion. Rules you already have are untouched and read exactly as they did before.
  • Added: A new “Buy X of one product, get Y of another at % off” deal appears in the discount actions list, for offers like “buy 2 shirts, get a pair of jeans at 10% off”. It runs in Discount Master for WooCommerce Pro.
  • Fixed: On Windows servers, importing a discounts file always failed with “Specified file failed upload test”, whatever file you picked. The plugin was mishandling the location the server had put your uploaded file in, so it went looking for a file that was not there. Import now works on Windows as it does everywhere else.
  • Fixed: On some servers, exporting your discounts produced a download link that answered “Forbidden” instead of giving you the file. The export was named after your site’s date and time settings, which on a default setup puts a colon and a comma into the file name, and some servers refuse to serve a file named that way. Export files now get a plain, safe name. Two exports made in the same minute also used to overwrite each other, so the second one replaced the first. They are now kept separately.
  • Fixed: Importing a discounts file brought the rules back in a mangled state. Switches you had turned off came back on, the notes box read “Array” instead of what you wrote, and the quantity rows of a bulk or tiered rule, along with the rules of a buy one get one deal, were lost entirely. Exported files now record each setting exactly as the rule holds it, so an import gives you back the rule you exported. Files you exported with an earlier version still import, but they were written without those quantity and buy one get one rows in them, so export again from this version if you want a file you can rely on.
  • Fixed: Three switches on a discount’s Display tab always came back switched on when you reopened the rule, no matter what you had saved: “Show Bulk Discount Table”, “Show discount action as cart item meta” and “Show discount action as order meta”. Saving the rule from that screen then turned them back on for real, so a switch you had deliberately turned off could not be made to stay off. They now reopen the way you left them. Worth looking over any rule where you had turned one of these off, because it may have been switched back on since without you knowing.
  • Updated: Clearer plugin name. Same plugin, same settings, nothing to do.
  • Updated: Translations template.

2.1.0

  • Added: Optional integration with Product Catalog Feed by PixelYourSite. Switch it on under Settings > Pricing and your discounted prices are written into every feed it generates, for every provider it supports, so a shopper sees the same price in your Google, Facebook, Pinterest, or TikTok listing as they do on your site. Nothing needs remapping in the feed itself. You can choose where the discounted price goes: the sale price, which is the usual choice and gives you the crossed out price in Google and Facebook, or the price, which shows the discounted figure as the only price with no sale badge. A product you discount is also sent with no sale dates on it, so an old or upcoming sale schedule left on the product cannot knock your discounted price back out of the feed. If you also run WooCommerce Dynamic Pricing & Discounts, Discount Master leaves your feeds to that plugin, because Product Catalog Feed already prices them through it and using both would put a price in your feed that has been discounted twice over. You get a note in Discount Master when that happens, so you can pick which of the two prices your feeds. Off by default, and your feeds only change when they are next generated. Only rules that can be worked out from the product on its own are included: rules that depend on the cart, the visitor, or the page they arrived from are left out, as are rules hidden on the single product page.
  • Added: Optional integration with Product Feed Manager for WooCommerce by RexTheme. Switch it on under Settings > Pricing and your discounted prices are written into the sale price and the current price of every feed it generates, for every merchant it supports, including Google Shopping, Facebook, Bing, and Pinterest. The regular price is left alone, so your feed still shows what the product costs without the discount. Check your feed includes a Sale Price attribute – Product Feed Manager only writes out the attributes you have mapped, and most of its templates map Regular Price but not Sale Price until you add it. You also get three new options in the feed’s attribute list, under a Discount Master heading: Price, Price Include Tax, and Price Exclude Tax. Pick one of those when your channel has no sale price of its own, or when you want the discounted figure somewhere else in the feed. Off by default, and your feeds only change when they are next generated. The same rules apply as for Product Catalog Feed: only discounts that can be worked out from the product on its own are included. Variable products are discounted through the variation the feed prices them from – the default one, or the cheapest where no default is set – and grouped products through the cheapest product in the group. Composite and bundled products are left at their usual feed price, because their price is added up from the parts they are built from rather than taken from any one product.
  • Added: The Mini Cart drawer now shows a savings row under its Subtotal. It counts your product discounts only, because a subtotal never includes cart-level discounts and quoting the full figure there would not add up against the number beside it. The full figure still appears at the cart and at checkout.
  • Added: Saving a new discount while the “Activate discount” switch is off now asks you to confirm first, so a rule cannot be filed away inactive by accident and quietly never run. You get three choices: activate it and save, save it as inactive, or go back to editing. The reminder only appears when you create a discount, never when you edit one, so a rule you are deliberately keeping switched off can be saved again without being asked every time.
  • Fixed: A discount set to apply only in the “Locations not covered by your other zones” shipping zone was saved without that restriction, so it applied in every zone instead. The zone is now kept, and a rule aimed at it applies only there. Worth checking any rule you set up that way: it will now hold back where it used to give the discount away.
  • Fixed: The “You saved”, crossed-out total and crossed-out subtotal rows now appear on the block-based cart and checkout. They previously only showed on the classic shortcode cart and checkout, so a store using the newer blocks got the discounted price with nothing to explain it. Discounts themselves always applied correctly on both. On the blocks the two crossed-out figures are shown as their own rows, “Total before discount” and “Subtotal before discount”, because the blocks do not allow anything to be added to the total and subtotal lines themselves.
  • Fixed: If a discount’s settings failed to load when you opened it for editing, the error arrived as a browser popup that froze the page until you clicked it away. It now appears as a notification in the corner of the screen, matching every other message in the plugin.
