About DigitalmenteChiara Easy Read Toggle
From the official readme · v2.1.0Description
Below each post’s editor, the plugin adds a section where you write the Easy Read version (headings and paragraphs).
On the frontend, an accessible toggle (role=”switch”, keyboard operable) appears below the article: turning it on replaces the standard text with the Easy Read version.
Compatibility:
- Automatic on any theme/builder that calls
the_content(classic themes, Elementor’s “Post Content” widget, Oxygen’s “Content” element). - For builders or layouts that don’t route through
the_content, use the[easy_read_toggle]shortcode or the “DigitalmenteChiara Easy Read Toggle” Elementor widget.
Elementor and Oxygen are trademarks of their respective owners. This plugin is not affiliated with or endorsed by either.
Settings
Settings > DigitalmenteChiara Easy Read Toggle: active post types, auto-insertion on/off, toggle labels.
Translations

Installation
- Upload the plugin files to
/wp-content/plugins/easy-read-toggle, or install directly through the WordPress plugins screen. - Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ screen in WordPress.
- You’ll be taken to Settings > DigitalmenteChiara Easy Read Toggle automatically — pick which post types should get the feature.
- Edit a post of that type: below the normal content editor you’ll find an “Easy Read” box. Write the Easy-to-Read version there.
- Publish/update the post. The toggle appears automatically on the frontend; if your builder doesn’t render
the_content, use the[easy_read_toggle]shortcode or the Elementor widget instead.
Frequently asked questions
Does this work with Elementor and Oxygen?
Yes. It’s automatic wherever your theme/builder renders the normal post content (Elementor’s “Post Content” widget, Oxygen’s “Content” element, classic themes). For layouts that don’t route through it, use the [easy_read_toggle] shortcode or the Elementor widget.
What happens if I enable it on a post but don’t write the Easy Read text yet?
A “coming soon” notice is shown instead of the toggle, so readers know a simpler version is on the way.
Changelog
2.1.0
Renamed to DigitalmenteChiara Easy Read Toggle (slug: digitalmentechiara-easy-read-toggle) for directory distinctiveness. Removed the arbitrary Custom CSS field. Dropped bundled translation files and the load_plugin_textdomain() call (handled by WordPress core / translate.wordpress.org).
2.0.1
Fix: Text Domain header/strings now match the wp.org-assigned slug (dc-easy-read-toggle).
2.0.0
Replaced the classic TinyMCE editor in the Easy Read box with a native block editor (Paragraph/Heading/List/Quote blocks, same as the main content editor) – sidesteps a WP core TinyMCE crash affecting a second classic editor on the same screen.
1.0.5
Attempted fix for a WP core TinyMCE focus-restore crash (superseded by 2.0.1’s rewrite).
1.0.4
Renamed to DC Easy Read Toggle for directory uniqueness.
1.0.3
Plugin Check fixes: input sanitization, unprefixed variable, readme tested-up-to.
