External services
This plugin connects to the Hebcal Shabbat Times API (https://www.hebcal.com/shabbat/) to retrieve the Torah portion, candle lighting, Havdalah and related times that the shortcode displays.
When a page containing the shortcode is rendered (and no cached result exists; results are cached for 15 minutes), the plugin sends the location given in the shortcode: either a zip code, or a longitude, latitude and time zone ID. No visitor data is sent; only the values written in your shortcode, plus the server’s IP address as part of the normal HTTP request.
This service is provided by Hebcal.com. Its API terms of use (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license, attribution to Hebcal.com required) are described on the Hebcal Developer APIs page and in the license text. See also the Hebcal Privacy Policy.
Installation
- Unzip and upload the plugin into the plugins directory and then activate it.
- Grab a shortcode example and place it in the content of a page

Frequently asked questions
What does it do?
It simple gives a few shortcodes to display the Shabbat lighting times. Watch the video to see what it does:
Why did you write this plugin?
My synagogue needed to display the current Portion on the website and I couldn’t find a good plugin to do this. This allows me to display the shortcode in the title of a post/page or within the content of a page/post.
How do I use the block, Elementor widget or Beaver Builder module?
Add the “Shabbat Times” block, Elementor widget or Beaver Builder module, enter a US zip code or a longitude, latitude and time zone ID, and choose either the weekly summary or a single value.
How do I use the shortcode?
To show the modern card layout: [hebcal_sc display=”summary” layout=”card” zip=”30066″] To show the classic bulleted list (v1.0–v1.3 legacy look): [hebcal_sc display=”summary” layout=”list” zip=”30066″] (or layout=”classic”) Options: * zip: US zip code. * longitude, latitude, tzid: Coordinates & timezone ID. * display: "summary" or "single". * layout: "card" (modern card), "list" / "classic" (legacy unstyled list), or "inline" (single value). Configurable site-wide in Settings. * icon: "yes" (adds 🕯️ / 🍷 icon) or "no". * param: "title", "time", "hebrew", "torah", "haftarah", "maftir", "date"…
