Product Order by Category for WooCommerce lets store managers define an independent product order for every supported product archive without changing WooCommerce’s global menu_order value.
Unlike global product-order tools, each taxonomy term keeps its own independent order. Use the same product in several categories and give it a different position in each one. The plugin also supports product tags, public global attributes, native WooCommerce product brands, and public custom taxonomies registered for products.

- Drag-and-drop ordering with multi-select movement controls.
- Search, stock-status, and native WooCommerce brand filters in the administration screen.
- Optional products-per-page value for each archive term.
- Products added after an order was saved appear first until the order is saved again.
- Products assigned only to descendant categories are always included in parent-category ordering.
- Products hidden from the catalog are excluded from the ordering screen.
- Explicit shopper sorting by price, popularity, rating, or another option takes precedence.
- Does not alter WooCommerce’s global product

Installation
- Install and activate WooCommerce.
- Upload the plugin ZIP from Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, or copy the plugin folder to
/wp-content/plugins/. - Activate Product Order by Category for WooCommerce.
- Go to Products > Product order.
- Choose a taxonomy and term, load its products, arrange them, and save.
Frequently asked questions
Does this change WooCommerce’s global product order?
No. Orders are stored separately for each taxonomy term. The global menu_order remains unchanged.
Which taxonomies are supported?
Public taxonomies attached to the product post type that expose both an archive and an administration interface. This includes product categories, tags, public global attributes, WooCommerce product brands when available, and public custom product taxonomies. Internal WooCommerce taxonomies such as product type, visibility, and shipping class are excluded. The optional brand filter uses WooCommerce’s native product_brand taxonomy when it is available.
Are child-category products included?
Yes. A parent category includes products assigned to any of its descendant categories, matching normal WooCommerce category behavior.
What happens when I add a product later?
The new product appears before the previously saved products. Save the archive order again to choose its final position.
Does it respect sorting selected by a shopper?
Yes. The custom order applies to WooCommerce’s default catalog sorting. Explicit sorting such as price, popularity, date, or rating is respected.
What happens when WooCommerce is inactive?
The ordering features do not run and an administrator notice is displayed. The plugin does not cause a fatal error.
What data does the plugin store?
It stores taxonomy, term ID, product ID, position, and update time in a dedicated database table. A term-meta value is stored only when a custom products-per-page value is configured. One option stores the plugin database version and another stores the uninstall preference.
Is data removed on uninstall?
Not by default. Open Products > Product order > Plugin settings and enable “Delete all plugin data when the plugin is uninstalled” before deleting the plugin if you want its table, term metadata, and options removed.
Does the plugin send any data elsewhere?
No. It does not contact external services, use telemetry, set tracking cookies, or load remote resources.
